Just discovered that May has been declared ‘National Walking Month’ by Living Streets, what or who is Living Streets…? Well to quote their about page….
“Do you love your street? So do we.
We want to work with you to make the streets you live, work, shop and play in safe, attractive and enjoyable spaces. We’ve been doing just that, since 1929.
We are all pedestrians, and our streets are the one public space we all use daily. At Living Streets, we think they are worth fighting for. With our supporters, we work to create streets that really put people first. When we have streets we want to walk in, lives are transformed – we are healthier, happier and more sociable.”
How did we make this discovery… well Tricia saw a link on twitter to a post on Walks & Walking talking about ‘National Walking Week’ this then lead to…. a great post by Judith Wills on the Saga website to a post entitled ‘Why no National Walk Anywhere You Like Week?’
While the image to the left is to small to read here it’s worth clicking on as it’s full of interesting facts and figures about how good walking is for you.
Living Street have planned a ‘Walk to School Week’ May 13th -17th, a ‘Walk to Work Week’ May 20th – 24th and Judith Wills is planning a ‘Walk Anywhere you Like Week’ May 18th – 24th. So why not join us at Real Staithes on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May for a ‘Walk on the Foreshore Day’… for a day of walking with fossils, fish food & fun too and to quote Judith Wells “Walking is no chore if there’s a purpose or pleasure” Well a day on the foreshore with us has both a purpose and it’s pleasurable too… so please consider joining us.
Your day with us ends with a short stroll alone The Cleveland Way, one of the two National Trails that run though this area. You never know, you may want to come back and complete the whole 109 miles of The Cleveland Way or The Yorkshire Wolds Way.
Anyway, walking is good for you, it’s not a chore so do get out there and enjoy it….:)
