Please note – there is NO parking within the old part of Staithes, in fact, we would like to politely request that you do not bring a vehicle down the bank into the old part of the village.
Two car parks are available for you to use. Both are accessible from the A174.
The first car park is situated on Cowbar, it is free of charge but has no toilets. This car park is on top of the cliffs giving a wonderful view over the sea to Hartlepool and Sunderland . On leaving the car park (on foot) you need to turn left and head towards the two rows of cottage following the road down Cowbar Bank, from here you will get a stunning view of Staithes. At the bottom of the bank turn right over the foot bridge and head up Abraham’s Lane. With the Art Gallery on your left hand side follow Staithes High Street, past the Royal George Pub, keep following the high street until you come to a slip way you can them walk around the Cod & Lobster Pub via the road or the footpath. This leads onto Staithes sea front with Church Street leading off to your right. A short way along the seafront you will see the Seadrift Coffee Shop and immediately next door are the public toilets.
The second car park is situated in the newer part of Staithes. You need to turn right just past the Captain Cook Pub, in fact the road leads you into the car park, may we politely request that you do not turn left here as there really is no where to park in the old village. While there is a charge for this car park (you will need an all day ticket) public toilets and a visitor’s information point are available. On leaving the car park (on foot) you need to turn right into Staithes Lane carry on until you come to the top of the bank you then have to choose. Either head down the bank or take the footpath to the right of the bank.
If you have chosen the bank it is just a matter of following the high street, you will pass the Captain Cook Museum and Staithes Heritage Center on your right (well worth a visit). As you round the corner you will be able to see right along the high street to the Art Gallery. With the Art Gallery on your left hand side continue along the high street, past the Royal George Pub until you come to a slip way you can them walk around the Cod & Lobster Pub via the road or the footpath. This leads onto Staithes sea front with Church Street leading off to your right. A short way along the seafront you will see the Seadrift Coffee Shop and immediately next door are the public toilets.
If you have chosen the footpath, this leads you down lots and lots of steps onto the seafront, but you do have some wonderful views both of the village and out to sea. There are several sets of steps that will lead you to the high street then onto the seafront.
Hopefully, you are now on the seafront… Just as you go onto the seafront at the bottom of Church Street there is a seat, we will be waiting for you there.
We aim to leave from this point at 10am; please do be punctual as the tides wait for no man or woman… The day will finish back in Staithes at 4pm approximately.
We have taking the decision to meet you on Staithes seafront rather than in the car park as we feel that the walk down thought the village, with us as guides could take all day…! maybe this could be another course…?
