Hermit Crab

Two homeless hermit crabs, paguroidea.   Hermit crabs don’t actually have shells, so they use shells that heve been abandoned by their previous owners.   This is why when rock pooling anywhere on the British coast you will find hermit crabs living in winkle or whelk shells. Beach Treasure…

An absolutely stunning walk this morning on the foreshore to the north of Staithes. The weather conditions produced such amazing  contrasts, from the clarity of the winter sunshine to the snow showers producing Arctic blizzards, the biting, freezing wind made you feel so alive.  The bright orange beaks of the Oystercatchers made for a colourful display against the grey of the sea and rocks.  As an added bonus found a few pieces of jet and […]

A sunny day on the foreshore…

We had a great day yesterday on the foreshore… the weather was kind too… sunshine all the way… we even had lunch outside too… The lobster pots had lots of lobsters in them… only one was the correct size… but it was a female and she had eggs so we ‘v-notched’ her… then threw her back into the sea. Thomas has made a little video of the day…
